Thursday, August 21, 2003

On September 21st 2003, the Millville Vol. Fire Co., Sussex County Paramedics and Delaware State Police Aviation Division were dispatched to a reported water rescue at the Dogwood Acres Marina. Initial reports were that a child had been playing on a boogie board in the marina and had drifted out into the Indian River Bay. Utility 84-11 with 2 divers and the Dive Trailer responded immediately along with B84. Units were advised of the report and that residents were attempting a rescue. While enroute an updated report from EOC advised that homeowners had effected the rescue and were enroute back to the boat ramp. On 84-11's arrival, Deputy 84 (Huovinen) established command and reported that the boat had reached the ramp and the subject was cold but uninjured. The victim was assessed by EMT's for exposure to the cold water. Trooper 2 and SCEMS Medic 105 were placed in service. The victim was released to his parents and units cleared within 15 minutes.
