ON THE ABOVE DATE AND TIME THE MILLVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY WAS DISPATCHED TO A REPORTED WORKING STRUCTURE FIRE OFF OF DUKES ROAD. ASSISTANT CHIEF LOCKWOOD RESPONDED IN 84-8, WHEN ARRIVING ON SCENE ASSISTANT CHIEF LOCKWOOD FOUND A 2 STORY SINGLE FAMILY WOOD FRAME HOUSE TO BE 3/4 INVOLVED WITH FIRE, ASSISTANT CHIEF LOCKWOOD ESTABLISHED COMMAND. UPON APPROACHING THE HOUSE HE FOUND A WOMAN OUTSIDE THE STRUCTURE, SHE STATED THAT NO ONE WAS BELIEVED TO BE IN THE HOME. THE HOME HAS BEEN KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN VACANT FOR MANY YEARS. UPON STARTING A 360 OF THE HOUSE THE ROOF BEGAN TO COLLAPSE IN THE MAIN LIVING PORTION OF THE HOME, THE BUILT OF THE FIRE WAS ON SIDES A, C, AND D. WHEN APPROACHING SIDE B THERE WAS NO FIRE BUT HEAVY BLACK SMOKE PUSHING OUT OF THE WINDOWS AND EVES, AT WHICH TIME IT WAS DETERMINED TO USE A DEFENSIVE ATTACK. 84-2 ARRIVED ON SCENE AND WAS ADVISED TO PULL - 2 -1,3/4" LINES. COMMAND THEN HAD TRUCK 84 BACK DOWN THE LANE TO THE HOUSE TO SET UP FOR OPERATIONS AND 84-4 DROP 5" AT DUKES LANE FOR WATER SUPPLY. 90-18 WAS THEN APPOINTED WATER SUPPLY FOR THE DURATION OF THE ALARM. ONCE 84-4 HAD SET UP TO SUPPLY 84-2, THE LADDER PIPE WAS SET UP AND BEGAN FLOWING TO HELP EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. 90-4 PICKED UP THE SUPPLY LINE FROM 84-4, AND TANKER 84 BEGAN TO SUPPLY 90-4. ONCE THE BULK OF ROOF IN THE MAIN FIRE AREA COLLAPSED DEPUTY CHIEF WALLS DECIDED TO ENTER THE HOUSE FROM SIDE B ON THE 1ST FLOOR THROUGH THE GARAGE TO MAKE AN INTERIOR ATTACK. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES DEPUTY WALLS TOOK HIS CREW TO THE 2ND FLOOR DID A QUICK SEARCH AND BEGAN FIRE SUPPRESSION FROM THE 2ND FLOOR. AN ADDITIONAL TANKER FROM 73 WAS REQUESTED TO ASSIST WITH WATER SUPPLY. AN ENGINE FROM 73 WAS SENT TO STATION 84 TO HIT THE HYDRANT AT THE STATION AND DEPLOY A 1,3/4" LINE THROUGH THE WOODS TO THE SCENE. ONCE THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED, CREWS BEGAN TO OVERHAUL SOME HOT SPOTS. UNITS WERE TOLD BY COMMAND TO CLEAR WHEN READY. THE SCENE WAS TURNED OVER TO THE DELAWARE STATE FIRE MARSHAL.
